Kennesaw is located in north central Cobb County, between Marietta and Woodstock. With its combination of unique Main Street shopping and the Towne Center at Cobb shopping mall with 175+ stores, Kennesaw is a thriving Metro Atlanta city. Only about 30 miles to Atlanta, downtown Kennesaw hosts festivals, parades, concerts, holiday events, and movies. For history buffs, Kennesaw is home to the Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History, affiliated with the Smithsonian.

Natural beauty surrounds Kennesaw as it borders Lake Allatoona, a 12,000 acre lake popular for boating, fishing and camping. 18 miles of nature trails including the option to climb Kennesaw Mountain are part of the Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park, a site of historical significance during the Civil War. The Smith-Gilbert Gardens is a botanical paradise, with 16 acres of serene gardens, over 3000 species of plants, and the 150+ year old Hiram-Butler home.

Nearby the city is Kennesaw State University, the third largest university in Georgia, and one of the 50 largest universities in the U.S. with over 35,000 students across several campuses. KSU offers everything from continuing education to doctoral degrees.

Describe A Perfect Day in Kennesaw?

Taking a walk through history at Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park. All along the miles of trails, you can go back in time and even see the canons that were used during the civil war. If you make it to the top of the mountain, on a clear day you can see the distant skyline of Atlanta. I would continue my tour through history with a stop at the Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History. For lunch, I would head over to McCollum Airport where I can eat a wonderful meal at Elevation while watching the planes come and go. With Kennesaw State University nearby there are so many activities to choose from in the evenings. Concerts, festivals, sporting events, classes, or educational talks are always going on.
