Reasons to Retire in Canton Georgia

The city of Canton, GA is a sought-after community due to the great cost-of-living, quality culture options, and options for outdoor activities. This north metro Atlanta suburb offers residents plenty of opportunities to live well and create new experiences.

Many people have chosen Canton as an ideal place to live, retire and make memories. What’s bringing people to this “metro-meets-the-mountains” community? Here’s a look at some top reasons retirees choose to make Canton their home.

Walkability

The downtown Canton area is easily accessible on foot. It offers sidewalk-lined streets, walking paths, and paved trails close by, making it easy to walk to breakfast for a fresh cup of locally-brewed coffee or to break a sweat on one of the local trails.

On Saturdays, walk to the Farmer’s Market, which runs from June through October each year and features a wide variety of vendors offering fresh fruits and vegetables and other local favorites.

Shopping & Dining

With the addition of The Mill on Etowah, Canton has welcomed new restaurants that introduce new flavors and cuisines to the area. Create the perfect date night on-site at one of the restaurants or bars, followed by live music on the Mill event green.

Looking to do some shopping? Cotton Mill Exchange is a unique retail shopping experience featuring local artisans and merchants who offer handmade furniture, jewelry, antiques, and gifts. Other shops within the Mill offer handmade art, home decor, wine, and more. No matter what you’re in the mood for, the mixed-use development at the Mill on Etowah offers something for everyone.

In the heart of downtown Canton, a growing list of favorite local restaurants serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner options and are easily accessible by foot. Stroll along East Main Street to visit the shops dotted along the way.

In addition to local restaurants, Canton is home to festivals, including the Wing & Rock Fest, Taste & Brews Festival, Riverfest, and more.

Nature at Your Back Door

Canton offers both residents and visitors alike the opportunity for an active lifestyle with plenty of public parks and outdoor activities. The Etowah River, which snakes through the city, offers residents of Canton some of the best ways to get outside and enjoy nature, including kayaking, tubing, and fishing.

Etowah River Park, one of Canton’s largest parks, is 58 acres and offers an amphitheater, 2 playgrounds (perfect for when you have your family with young children visiting), a public canoe launch, and a concrete walking trail that connects to the Etowah River Trail and Heritage Park.

The Hickory Log Creek Reservoir, just a few miles north of downtown Canton, is perfect for spending a peaceful day on the water. It is stocked with Bream, Crappie, Catfish, and Bass.

Proximity to Atlanta & the Mountains

One of the most-loved things about living in Canton is the proximity to the city of Atlanta and the rolling Blue Ridge Mountains.

The City of Atlanta offers a bustling world of arts, music, and culture and is easily accessible by I-575 and 75. In the opposite direction, the mountains of north Georgia are about an hour’s drive north on 575, offering beautiful views and plenty of opportunities to get outside and explore.
